The numbers! Superman #1 cost 10 cents for 64 pages.

51 years later, Superman 467 cost 75 cents for 22 pages.

21 years after that, the new Superman #2 cost 2.99 for 20 pages.

SO! After 51 years, prices were 750% where they started for about 34% the content.

After 21 more years, they are 400% what they were from the second point, with about 90% the content.

(If you want to go all the way back, from the first Superman #1 to the current Superman #2, it's 4000% what they started at for about 31% the content.)

So, the price increase rate is a little higher than it's always been, but the content attrition rate is drastically smaller. Still sucks walking into the funnybook store with 15 bucks and walking out with four comics.

Edit; and some comics cost 3.99. That's 533% of that same point in 1990. Which is significantly more than a little higher then the rate up until then.

In the comics, every once in a while, Superman will purchase something at super speed. Like fly through, grab what he needs and leave the cost of it on the counter. I like to think that in with the money is a little slip of paper with an S shield on it so the clerk know what the hell just happened, and this is common knowledge. So all over the world shops and stores proudly hang these little slips of paper in frames in a prominent place in the store/restaurant.

First Look at Henry Cavill as Superman

Warner Bros. has released the first official image of actor Henry Cavill as Superman in the Man of Steel reboot! Click on the image below for the hi-res version.

The suit is somewhat like Brandon Routh's more muted colored costume from Superman Returns, including the raised "S" chest symbol. The texture of the costume is also somewhat reminiscent of the Spider-Man movie costume.

Also of note, it sucks like like a two bit whore across the street from a busted open parking meter. Seriously, that thing is ugly as homemade sin. I love the cape, but the texturing and shield look like hot garbage. Do not care either way about the lack of trunks.

DC's latest reboot that's turning out to not be a reboot. My two cents. Meh. A big fat Meh. It's obvious an attempt to mask the fact that they've lost certain of elements of Superman and have to change him. But DC still owns the rights to all the stuff they've already done, so it's not like the old Superman is going away. We're just getting a new version. And he's been being tweeked from day one.

And seriously folks, stop bitching about the costume. It's the same freaking suit without the trunks. Do I want it to change? No, the suit's classic, but there's no way you can look at the new one and not say it's not Superman. Batman's suit changes all the time, no one cries about that. Well, they do, but not so much.

Edit to add: You know what? Screw it. I like the new suit. There. I said it.
