I'm slightly obsessed with the terrible ideas John Byrne had for his take on Superman. I chronicled a lot of the really terrible stuff (collected from interviews and posts to his message board, all actual quotes from him) that didn't make it in and called it "It could have been worse." Recently, he added a new little factoid that is just terrible:
"One of the stories I did during my tenure on the Superman titles told of a "lost civilization" of humans, some members of which had abandoned Earth a few hundred thousand years ago and migrated out into space. My intent -- not realized before I left the books -- was to hint, without ever actually stating for a fact, that these people had settled on an uninhabited world circling a distant red sun. . ."
